I have been taking advantage of the drought here in the west since last spring. I've been hunting the lakes that are drying up and doing pretty well.
Well, with winter on the way and a storm moving in I figured I better take advantage of today. They say that it is going to be an El Nino year, which means my favorite hunting spots could be gone soon. I hope they are because we need water in the worst way.
Anyway, I braved the cold winds of the approaching storm and was having some success with 3 silver dimes and a 7.8 gram white gold ring. It was getting late and I wasn't getting any warmer so I started making my way towards the car, still swinging of course. I was completely content with the days finds and wondering to myself whether I should post or not when I got A 01/39 on the CTX. A few weeks ago I got the same signal and dug an Ike dollar. I thought great, I'm going to dig another one. I took a big scoop of sand and spread it out (no shaking this sand/ mud mix out). Rutted around with the PP and sure enough, there was a big disc. I rinsed it off and to my surprise it wasn't a Ike dollar, it was a peace dollar. Woohoo, my first! I rescanned the hole and about 6 inches away I got another 01/39. Yep, another peace dollar. Now I know I need to sweep this area no matter how late it's getting or how cold I am. About 3 feet away I get another 01/39. Another peace dollar right? Wrong, this time it's an 1889 Morgan. Holy carp!
After that there were no more 01/39 signals, but I did manage another Rosie and a Merc to give me 8 silvers for the day, which ties my old record from a few years ago.
Thanks for reading my long winded story and I hope you enjoyed it and the photos. HH!

Added a couple cleaned up pics. I know, don't clean coins. These are common dates and look much better with some of the environmental damage removed.

Wow! Insane, you know its a good hunt when a gold ring is just a side note!! What a year, first a gold coin and then 3 silver dollars on the same day! Major congrats on an epic hunt and year!

Huge congrats on digging 3 very big silvers in one hunt...a once in a lifetime day of detecting!

I was so excited about the ring, but that kind of went away after the dollar spill.

:yes:Congrats!
Thanks Nectar!

Dang, another eye-popping post for you, Keith!

"Amazing day" is an understatement! That's a once in a lifetime hunt to find 3 separate silver dollars in one day!

Way to take advantage of the drought conditions, bud!

Major congrats!

Thanks a lot Dan! Luckily there was no one else around. People would have thought I was nuts out there jumpin around like one of the guys from Diggers:lol:

Awesome day indeed! FWIW, the model on the Morgan dollar wass a first cousin of my paternal great grandmother. Anna B. Williams was the model's name. She was a school teacher and was selected after thousands of other models had been rejected.

You are killing it in that drought stricken land.

Holy Moly...3 silver dollars on one hunt!
3 lifetime finds on one trip...never seen that happen on this forum before.
From personal experience I know one silver dollar is thrilling, ask Jack and Jill about what it feels like to find 2, finding 3 is...I couldn't dream about how that would feel so tell us.
You won't come down from this for a long, long time if ever.
