Copper / Bronze button?

Hunted a homesite that dates back to the 1920s but the area actually dates to the 1600s. Found this button and it appears the top might be aged copper or bronze. My tired eyes do not see a design or pattern but maybe a bit of cleaning might reveal something.

Or not.

Suggestions? Ideas? Proceed? How? Or leave it as is?

I can't see any patterns, just green and black. But it definitely looks very old.
