I found this 1857 Flying Eagle cent several weeks ago (still stoked!), but have no idea how to clean it safely. The back is in a little better shape than the front, but both need some work. Although you can read the date, you sort of have to take it on faith that it's a Flying Eagle coin. Any suggestions on how to clean a copper coin of this vintage? Thanks in advance!

Tooth pick it......then rub your face along the side of your nose and rub it on the coin.....

Yep you can see that eagle! Awesome! I have cleaned some indians with olive oil and a toothpick...soak it for a few days then toothpick, repeat until you like it....but I am no expert

Don't ruin it using olive oil. I've coated coins like that in Vasoline, then 'rolling' gently across the coin with Q-tips, using new ones as they get dirty.
