Wherein your brave correspondent sticks his neck out and dares to name names.

Four popular detectors are compared feature by feature, and recommendations are made.

The machines in question: Fisher F2, Garrett Ace 150, Tesoro Compadre, and White's Coinmaster.

Nice one Dan! I would get the F2 if I were a newbie and heard your info!

My vote

I can't speak on the other machines, but I went with the F2 a month ago and I am VERY happy with my choice. As a total newbie with no previous experience or friends with machines, it was easy to master and I found lots of coins in my backyard in my first attempt.

Thanks Dan! BTW I couldn't get the PODcast to run with a click. I got a permission error. I did a 'save target as' and then open and it worked fine.:D
