How Old Is This Bullet?

Can anyone offer any info on this bullet? I found it on Saturday. It seems pretty old to me but I'm certainly no expert.

Let me know if more pics are needs to ID.

I wish that people would give some measurements when asking to id bullets and/or cases

Nevertheless, your bullet looks like a 3-ring minie from civil war era. As for the exact age, impossible to say. Even modern day black powder shooters may use such bullets. Imho your bullet does look old so I'd be inclined to say civil war era.

Thanks Voriax! The bottom has a cavity. Here's another scan. Is there any way to have its age verified? If it is a 3-ring minie, what would the caliber be - 50?

Caliber might be .54 Hard to tell from that ruler. If you have a caliper measure you could take & post accurate dimensions. Also you can browse this page: http://www.civilwaroutpost.com/Bullets.htm and decide yourself

Most likely .58 caliber.
