Hello all.
I returned to the Georgian house on Friday to see that a few more feet of grass had been cut, but I decided to try in the orchard first as the grass is a lot shorter than on my search in the Autumn. All of the strong signals are now gone now so going low and slow, I worked on the deep and dubious signals. I found lots of rubbish and bits 'n bobs but also recovered three items of silver. The first looks to be a propelling pencil - or a part thereof. The second is a 1914 sixpence that came from a really noisy patch. There had been a small fire lit at some point that damaged the coin. The third bit of silver looks to possibly be a buckle fragment. I will look here again when the grass is next cut short..... I then turned my eyes the the mown front lawn where more coins from the mid 1800's to early 1900's were found along with more junk. One particularly punchy signal turned out to be a small aluminium tub marked McClinton's talcum powder..... Although the container is damaged, I have managed to tease it open to find the talc still inside.
Yesterday I met up with Dave G on a farm to check out some freshly worked over ground. Pickings were very slim indeed and the best I could manage was a sack seal, two buttons, a fishing weight, a 9mm round, junk and a 1922 Sixpence. Dave however, found a Roman brooch!
