Found this HERO Derringer MFA. Co
They were known as a poor mans gun or boot gun.
They were manufactured 1861 to 1868.
I was hunting an old farmstead I found on mapworks, dated 1879.
I was dumbfounded! I love finding guns. This one is in great shape for being in the dirt this long. It clearly reads HERO on its side. I believe its .32 caliber.

:wow: Wow, awesome old gun. I find a lot of the cylinder portions of the old toy revolvers but it's great to see someone bag the real thing, and in that good of shape! Congrats!

Thanks everyone. It was a cold hunt. About a mile ride on the quad. Had a great time and hopefully get back out there today.

Now that's what I am talking about. Great find man. I like taking my ATV out with the detector to get to those places in the old days only a horse or on foot could get you to, untouched by a metal detector.

I was out yesterday but no real good stuff yet. Raining here today.

nice score, congrats!
if you shine that up and restore it, you'll have to show us the end results! i think that would look awesome! :D
my only atv'ing today was plowing another 6 inches or so of that "stuff". the sun is shining nice and strong and i've got some gravel showing so maybe i can get out later and detect the driveway, lol.
