I have a friend who uses protonmail He likes it and does not trust the others like gmail and yahoo.

When I started on the 'net in '03 I loved Yahoo mail (I still have it as one of my accounts) but in the last 5 years or so they kept screwing around with it to the point that it's slow and cranky, and now I hate it. I mainly use the one my local ISP provides me (and with no problems, ever).
Have never heard of them, will check them out. Thanks!
