Help with cleaning a ring

Found this Navy ring today and having a real challenge cleaning it. Used a toothbrush and running water then a wooden toothpick and while I got a lot off, it's still got a lot of gunk on it. Appears to be gold but rang up high. There is a mark inside but I can't read it. May take to a jeweler to see if they can clean it.

10k can look like that after being in the water a long time. You could try muratic acid......

Shows the textbook sign of being plated..

Corrosion can be seen where the plating had worn through, exactly on the spots that take the most wear..

Still a cool old ring!!
