Cleaning silver coins-help pls.

Here's what I don't quite get about cleaning coins. If a coin has laid in the ground for a hundred+ years, it has been rained on, snowed on, had organic matter rotting on it, been stepped on, been frozen, been thawed, and for all we know survived earthquakes and forest fires or something.

BUT DON'T CLEAN IT! IT WILL RUIN THE VALUE!

never use an abrasive cloth!!!!

even though it's been rubbing against dirt and rocks for a century cotton will somehow hurt it?

I guess I'm just a bit sad I can't reliably clean my Barber Quarter hehe

like the tinfoil/spit method and the MD made the highest pitch where i found the dimes. Who knows!
When will the heatwave end? Augh!

Sorry. There are so many suggestions for everything, which is nice. Can you tell me how to clean silver coins. I found 3 dimes yesterday and can't even read them. Am excited to find out the dates w/o scratching, etc!! Thanks and have a safe Memorial Day.

Some pictures would be nice to see the condition. Baking soda and ammonia only works to remove tarnish. Electrolysis and then Baking Soda worked for me on a badly encrusted 1917Mercury dime that I brought back to its beauty. Here are the pics.
