I hunted a house today that was built in 1843. Two blocks down the street a civil war gun manufacturer existed. I found a musket ball that is bigger than a .54 Cal but smaller than a .69 Cal. I'm guessing it's a .58 Cal I really need a micrometer! I also found a shield shaped item that I'm hoping is civil war related, if anybody knows please tell me;) I have it tumbling now hoping there is some writing on it. I also found two buffalo nickels, three wheaties, a candy token, another mystery item that has a lead back, again I have it tumbling hoping to see something on it. I also found a 1920 dog tag and a tiny pendant thing with a hole in it. The yard was super clean with very few targets to dig and almost everything was a 1" or 2" deep. Ty for looking and HH!

i'm certainly not an expert on these things but i'd venture a guess that your "shield" piece is the tip from a leather strap on a saddle.
