I seem to remember reading something on the forums a while back about using a substitute for salt in the electrolyte and also not using stainless steel for the sacrificial anode. Could anyone provide any info on this? Thanks for any help.

I use washing soda. It is MUCH "kinder" than salt. Some folks use baking soda. I started using SS for an anode, but now use an airline bolt made of an unknown metal. I have used it daily for over six months with no degradation.
