I have been waiting for about 2 weeks for my new fishing magnet to come in and it finally did. Me and some buddies were experimenting with it yesterday at work and I am really impressed. If you have never tried this hobby it is truly a blast!

My brother dropped a 10 HP boat motor in about 15 ft of water. You
should find lots of good stuff.. But----- Be sure you have a strong rope
on the magnet or it might get stuck on the bottom. I would not drag
it unless the bottom had no obstructions. Good luck and keep us informed.

Sounds pretty cool!!! What 'power' is the magnet? Usually they are rated by how many pounds it will hold. Harbor freight has this one that holds 250 lbs, but it weighs quite a bit, I'd imagine it would be hard to toss any long distance.

What are some of the finds you've gotten? I'd like to give it a shot.

I bought a magnet that is just like this to start off and it is horrible! it wont pick things up out of the water. Them magnet I posted in the pic is a rare earth magent. The magnet is rated for 285 pounds and we use a 550 cord. I might change the rope but so far it has worked for us. I havent used the magnet yet but my buddy has on e that is similar and we found 88mm artillery shells, mortars, grenade launchers and some other things. Here is a link for a similar magnet http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=RZ0Y0X0 its a bit over priced for the sixe but this is the same type!
O by the way I will loan the gun out for deer hunting but I will charge a small sum

I am gonna do this for sure. thanks for the idea.

Would a big magnet out of an old speaker be good?

It might work if you are in a boat but if you are throwing it from the shore and dragging it the magnet might not have the strength to hold on to the object......
