Up on my hill where I found my love token, about 15-20’ away I dug this 2” deep.

West Virginia rabies vaccination 1958, it’s aluminum so I had to clean it a bit. The county only keeps records for 3 years. My house was built in 1964 but I’m finding all kinds of goodies. It’s another first for me.

So far I've found three dog licence tags and one with just the dog's name and address. So far no rabies tag. I think they are fun to find, my oldest so far is 1969. Congrats on a neat find!

Sure, i found four dog tags in one yard Sunday, will find my other example and photo them soon.

Believe it or not I found another, albeit newer but I’ll post after I clean it enough to read.

I have a few

Oldest if I recall was from the 40s I think it was from Iowa. Found one a couple weeks ago from Florida from the 80s.

I’ve found a few, rabies and just name tags. And some just dog licenses. Nothing that old. though! I’ll have to take a group photo tomorrow if I have time.

All but the blue one at lower left were dug Sunday in a permission's back yard. The blue one showed up @8 feet from my front door and we had owned the house since 2008, so it was a mystery. Now I find out it probably was from my brother's dachshund when he was visiting... lol. I absolutely love the 1938 tax tag for our tiny town of Leonardville, Kansas. Toby apparently was a tag hater since i found two of his nametags. I'm picturing a beagle...

Finally got a pic. Four are rabies, two are licenses and the other seven are just name tags.

Here's some I have found. I've also found a few in curbstrips that had addresses on them that were near. I returned them to the owner. In all of the instances, the dog had died. But they thanked me for returning it.

I'm not sure what kind of metal it is. Nothing precious. It does have a phone number on the back of it. I'm just assuming that it's a dog tag. It could be something else.

Got permission to hunt an 1867 home which so far has yielded less old stuff than hoped, but did dig another dog tag. I remember in the 1980s you mailed in a couple of proofs of purchase from Milk Bones to get one of these. When I cleaned it I saw it was for a dog owned by the homeowner. Returning it to him. Made an attempt to clean up the personalized side which was not a great success :(
