I found the item that appears to be a brass gear , but I have no idea what it is or was part of.

Might be part if that clock you found the frame to.
But Im not sure.
 
Seriously, those look like cam lobes and bearing surfaces, the gear being bronze and having small teeth wasn't designed for heavy loads, possibly a timing gear for something.

its a camshaft to some old motor... but it is very small. its definitely a timing mechanism for some kind of driven device

modern motors have internal timing chain (crank to cam)
I believe this came off something that had an external chain, or direct drive (gear to gear)

There is a working one at my mothers house, when I see them over the holidays I will take a look and get some pics for comparison.
