PORT ANGELES — The first piece of debris that could be identified as washing up on the West Coast from the March 11 tsunami in Japan — a large black float — was found on a Neah Bay beach two weeks ago,

...Tons of debris washed out to sea when a tsunami struck northern Japan after a massive magnitude-9.0 earthquake March 11.

About a quarter of the 100 million tons of debris from Japan is expected to make landfall on beaches from southern Alaska to California, possibly in volumes large enough to clog ports, Ebbesmeyer said.

The question is, will they close the West Coast beaches because of radioactive tsunami debris?

They are also concerned that "body parts" will float ashore. :(

wouldnt worry about the radiation thing as that is blown waaayyyy out of proportion of the misguided sensantionalism of the self serving media.
body parts for the most part have been eaten or at the bottom of the sea long before this stuff hits the coast.
sounds like a salvagers dream.

I agree with KWA, it unlikely that there are human remains left, and probably no radiation, if it had been radioactive it would have been tracked.

It's a very large mass, like a small island. Really no telling what will wash ashore. It's going to be a huge mess to clean up though. Pretty sure that it's been checked out pretty thoroughly over the past 5 months or so, that it's been out there. Kind of surprising they didn't try to sink it, or bust it up some. Maybe, they projected the path, and it was heading our way...

'Body parts'? Sheesh. All the way across the Pacific and not a fish or a crab bellying up to the bar? Too funny.

i heard their hoping that the japanese hide & go seek winner from 1990 will turn up.

What about all the cars that are still floating in all that mess?
