What do YOU NEED in a water machine?

Not to trivialize your efforts or knowledge but you have the easy part done. You can't build the technology that goes into those machines without electronics specialists with experience in the field. Tesoro, Minelab and the others all have guys who know detecting theory and electronics and they have guys who have perfected this stuff.

I agree. That's really my main question. I don't want to rip off others hard work and electronics... but I don't have $500,000 to "barrow" the geniuses brains that design these things. ANd those are basically my only two options. I can build a Tesoro board NO PROBLEM and a lot of the minelab stuff is simple to reproduce.... but just because I do the soldering still means I RIPPED OFF THEIR IDEAS AND RESEARCH.
SO basically Im stuck to "modding" current machines. It shouldn't be a proble to make the "aqua sovereign" in a few months of beating my head against the wall. But I think minelab would get pissed?

You can repackage any metal detector without fear, just remember you will be liable for warranty service and costs in the process because you will be voiding every warranty in the process.

Not sure what kind of market there is for something like what your planning, or what price points your looking at selling them at?

Thing I wonder is, if most of the commercial detectors were easy to copy, why is it then that new competition and brands are not popping out of the woodwork?

I reverse engineer competitors products all the time and we walk a fine line between patent infringement and copying, more so of benchmarking and learning.
