Have a chance to get an Ace 250 for about $150 or a Fisher F2 for about $200. Is the Fisher F2 worth the extra $50? Thanks

I've bought two 250's for my uncle and cousin, I used them both on a few occasions, and was not that impressed. After looking at the F2, I would buy an F2 this time around.

A couple of things set the F2 above the Garrett.

The recovery time of the Fisher is far quicker than the Garrett

The Fisher is much more comfortable to swing as the arm rest is farther up your arm making the machine much more balanced

For $215 you should be able to get an F-2 with the 8" coil and a 4" coil. And maybe an F Pointer -

Most of the dealers can get you that deal (mine did for me). If they are out of the F Pointers don't be too disappointed as they work but will not be your main pin-pointer once you see others at work.

Thanks. Well I don't exactly need a pinpointer as I have a great harbor freight one LOL.

What dealers are you talking about? Where do I find them, or where do they find me?

If you do not have a local dealer you can go back to the main forum and scroll down to the section marked FMDF Classifieds.
The top sub-forum is Sponsor Specials Forum. While there are a few from which to choose, Big Boys Hobbies is perhaps the most active. He has the F-2 with two coils and an F Pointer still listed on the site, though the F Pointer may be out of stock as they were discontinued (I think).

One huge advantage, (in my opinion), is the F2 has VDI numbers on the screen.
VERY helpful numbers.
My $200 F2 2 coil package has found me more than 10X's that amount in 3 years.

Check out Bart and this package.
2 coils, (and you want that sniper coil for sure), a backup pinpointer and free headphones, too.
Make sure you call him ask about this package and tell him I sent you.

Talk to Jeff at QualityMetalDetectors, he'll answer any questions you have.

I started with the 250. If I were to do it all over again I would have gotten the F2. Now, if I had started with the F2 I would probably be saying I'd do it over with a 250... grass is always greener on the other side.

The 250 has a slow retune speed and this is really important. The yellow color also started to get to me... even though it's not a kiddie detector it really looks like one. Other pro of the F2 is that it generally comes with a sniper coil already.

Also, don't limit your choices just to those two... there's a lot more out there.

I have used both detectors many times. If I was on a salt water beach the F2 is the detector I would take with me and the vdi is nice bonus. If I was coin hunting in soil, the garret would be the detector I would bring. Both are good over all and worth the $200 price tag.

F2 all day every day!!!!

It takes no time at all to learn how to use it, and once you get used to the VDI
and tones you will find more and more treasures.

You can use it to find relics, jewelry, coins. And let me tell you it is a coin killer. It will find you as much as some high end detectors. I have found coins to about 7-8"deep and some bigger things much deeper.

With 3 different stock coils available (4" 8" and 10") at a very reasonable price you will be able to detect anything.

All in all it is a very reliable, affordable detector to use.

Ended up getting the Fisher 2 with the 4" coil and pinpointer.

Thanks all for the help.

You will not be disappointed. That is the same outfit I have and am very satisfied with it. Almost everyone I hunt with has a higher end machine and they don't outdo me. I have since added a White's TRX and made my F Pointer my back up.

Now we will wait to see what you find with the new machine.

Thanks Digger. After reading the manual all the way through this morning, I read each of these posts. Great information, thank you.

One question I had though, was I never found a link to see any of your videos. Would be interested in seeing them if you have them online somewhere. Thanks.

Here...

Different ones, some with the Compadre, some with the Vaquero, lots with the F2...one about making pancakes.

250 or F2
There's so many detectors:pullhair:
Personally I think vdi #'s are not that important (they are nice to have) but I'm a TONE/SIGNAL hunter. If it is repeatable and sounds good I'll dig it! The F2 has some more features than the garrett 250 & honestly, probably a better deal in the long run. I will continue to swing the 350, & I am very happy to do so... HH
