Beginner Help, Texas Beach Detector?

Hi,

I am looking to buy a metal detector for use on Texas gulf coast beaches. However, as I am new to the hobby, I would like to know the best beginner detector, before I go out and buy the wrong one!

Also if anyone can point me in the direction of a guide to the best beaches near Galveston I would be very grateful.

What are you going to detect? Dry sand, wet, water? It makes a difference..

thanks for the reply

the sand down at galveston area would probably be considered damp? as for what type of objects...jewelry and or coins.
