There was a property I got permission on that is adjacent to an 1800s cemetery. It's a pretty large property, much of it wooded, but was a lot of farmland many years ago, with a homesite nearby. I was really hopeful to come up with a lot of cool stuff.
Unfortunately this trip after about 3 hours I only came up with two items of note so far. One was a 1916 Mercury Dime, that I happened to hit near the driveway on the way back to my car.
I also came up with a very strange half-penny. No, not a half-penny. . . but half of a penny. And not even the left or right side, but the back. So I think this penny could have been one of those old 'magic tricks' where you can hide a dime inside the penny. . . but the back is a 'wheatie' back. Have those things been around that long? See the pics.
The property is pushing 7-8 acres, and these two are the only coins I found, which was strange.
I hope to go back and continue hunting later this week. I'm hopeful I'll come up with something else cool.
