Keepers from the weekend. 1909 Barber quarter, 1903 barber dime, and my first 1800s coin, larger cent with 2 holes put through it for whatever reason. With multiple lights and angles best date I could manage off of it was 1853 which fits this type of Large cent. Any thoughts on these 2 holes? Thanks for looking. HH

Great finds! The large cent may have been used as a piece of jewelry or something, maybe even used as a shoe buckle? Either way awesome hunting congrats!

Wow some great coins there, Congrats on multiple bucket listers!
I agree with cellr, that coin could have been used for lots of things,
A button maybe? The placement of the holes top and bottom reminds me of the brass trim (usually circular) that hides the siderail bolts on an old bed.
Probably will never know, Awesome find, Congrats again!

Thoughts

Could have been used to sew on to a vest or coat. Back in the day people tethered their coins to themselves. Alot of times that coin might be the only one they had and they took great care not to lose it. If you think about it for a moment, they were jumping up and down off of horses, wagons and the like, pretty easy to lose something in your pocket. I dug a large cent this year with it attachment chain in the same hole. Congrats on a great hunt and nice saves on the silvers. HH Mark

Great finds. Google images of a "coin whizzer toy" and you'll see another possible explanation for those two holes.
