Found this piece at a 115 year old house sight. It's brass and some of it has been cut off. Any help would be appreciated.

Old lock faceplate would be my guess.

If the piece sticking out is attached, it looks like it is then it's prolly a strike plate.

It's an ornamental attachment to a Mayan or Aztec cod-piece. Or a lock plate.

Yup - lock plate. 1890 house I owned had this type of hardware. Look up Eastlake hardware. will show many designs.

Nice find!! Isn't it great to see the detail and intricate work done to something so common as a lock plate. There were artists back in the day. People who took pride in what they did. It is sad, really, that today's generation generally lacks the appreciation for things such as this. Not all, mind you, but in general. I would consider that find a treasure.
