Early Automobile Part ? United States Rubber Co

Hello, I'm hoping you good folks can help me identify this piece I dug up today. I believe its from a very early Automobile, but I'm not sure. There is writing on it that Reads United States Rubber Co 1" Size. I have googled this and come up with absolutely nothing other than the connection to very early tires, possible model T. Any thoughts would be Greatly appreciated!

my guess would be hydraulic hose fitting as stout as it looks from the pics. Can't think of anything tire related that would take a 1" fitting unless you're at a coal mine.
