Also, on gold find surmisings that you are not quite sure of..you can gently press into it with a knife edge, then inspect it with the loupe to verify a mark or not......Gold is soft, so the knife edge will leave a little dent at least.....SS or Plat or Lustrium or Tungsten is not soft...so it narrows it down a little...

That old ring though, in the area you found it in, with the diamond and surrounding onyx matrix, leads a guy to certainly believe its gold..Old gold even!....Since it is unmarked, just what K is the question here..Report back!
