I just bought one and it had a faulty coil as far as i can see. So far the only real problems with the V3 is what I am experiencing, a faulty stock coil.

Not at all. Great detector from a very solid company.
Now, would I trade my DFX for it?...don't think so. Really like the DFX, but from all I see, the V3i is easier to learn and use.

I would say no the DFX is much easier to learn the v3i is very complex I own both although I just got the DFX and have not used it much .

I have the DFX and have a program that so far has netted me a walking liberty half and 4 silver dimes First hunt of this year=1918 half and 1943 mercury dime in the woods. Second hunt=2 roosevelt silvers 1949,1961 Third hunt=1935 mercury dime in the same woods as the half found previously. So there you go 3 out of 3 hunts in 2011 Batting 1,000
