We spent a long weekend in Sussex at the weekend, staying near Battle.
This is on the south coast of England.
The main reason for going was to visit the science centre at Herstmonceux, the former Royal observatory. It's a fascinating place to visit, especially good for children as there's lots of hands on things for children. (young and old) :)

Luckily the weather on Saturday was beautiful, and we spent quite some time looking around the site, and taking in a guided tour.
We also managed to take in Battle Abbey, and the grounds of Bodiam Castle.

You can only go into Herstmonceux castle as part of a booked tour, but the gardens are well worth a look. Especially on this occasion, as there was a travelling exhibition of Shona sculpture, from Zimbabwe.
There were examples spread around the garden, exquisite work but way out of our price range. Although we did go back and make a small purchase :)

Bodiam Castle. Most people's idea of what a castle should look like.
