Hi Diggers,
I was detecting a site in the forest where many battles occurred in the 1600's and 1700's between the French and the Armies of the Holy Roman Empire. This place has been picked over for years by many detectorists. I'm pretty much digging any kind of signal no matter how crappy. I got a faint scratchy signal at least 10 inches deep. I dug the hole but the signal actually went away! I just kept digging and digging until the pin pointer finally got a hit. I popped out a very crusty button. I could tell it had some kind of design but couldn't make out any detail. When I got it home and cleaned up I was very pleasantly surprised to see it was a French button with a number 8 and the words REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE. It is now the center piece of my military buttons display. Thanks for looking and happy digging.

She's a beauty! Congrats!

Not only is the front a beautiful design and in amazing condition, but I like that horizontally and vertically holed shank!

Very nice find. Good work on a hammered site! [emoji846]
