Most people seem to have minimal issues, if any. I put this tool in the 'reliable' category, and Garrett will stand behind their tools, often at the only cost of sending it in, regardless of warranty status (their call though). Mine has worked, straight out the box, no major complaints, other than targets don't jump out of the hole, or much anything else different than using the HF. The HF I got, work fine out the box as well, and points out the location of my targets as well, just didn't expect the targets to jump out of the hole, it's only $16 after all.

If you absolutely must abuse your tools, and try to push them past their design, the Propointer is a better choice. You can do so many other things, like sove it in the ground like a tent stake, pry up rocks and roots. The HF just pinpoints, and built to do just that, and for people who use the correct tool for ever job.

Would really suggest the HF to start. The price is right, will help you decide if you really need something more, plus you will have a backup, if you do go Pro, and need something for the two weeks Garrett is making right, if you do get a lemon. They make thousands of them, so it's expected there are going to be a few problem units and horror stories. Same with HF, which they will exchange as well.

I've never been in a race, or competition, or in a huge hurry while detecting. I take however long it takes to recover a target. I'm just out for a relaxing, little fun and excitement. After gouging a few wheats in a rush to discover, found it better to be more careful, it's preventable damage, and can change a valuable find, into melt value only. After see a few picture of Leache damaged silver... Also finding a lot of broken glass and rusty nails, after buying my DeLeon, and going a little deeper. Really don't see the faster recovery, or even care. Really don't see any huge difference in the HF and Garrett in that regard, both tell you where that target is hiding in the hole.

Same here...#3 in two years. Really stinks that I keep having to send them in for constant repairs.

You paid for the warranty. You may as well use it.

I know this will go off topic of this thread, but I can't help it. The vibra probe is very reliable and I can probably use the darn thing as a digging tool and not have end pressure problems. I can also fill a sink up with water and completely submerge it to clean it with zero problems. Still on the first battery this season. Great unit and it never acts up or falses. Just had to throw this out there for people who might want to consider an alternative for the same price. I don't work for the company either

Mines been weird from day one.
On/off usually fixes it.
Sometimes it won't turn on until 5th-20th press of the power button.

I honestly don't care.

Its the only one on the market that works as good....Ill send it in when its dead...after warranty...Ill buy another.

Its THAT good to me.
There is NO other...imo.

Mine was beeping kind of off the wall and I added in a piece of foam and it stopped that. My foam wore out so I put in a nickel. Haven't had the problem since. = D

Haven't had a problem with mine except sticking it down in the hole and not hearing the beep, then realizing I turned it off since the last dig. I'm surprised at how many have had problems. It's a great tool to have!

The Propointer is not a coin probe. Flexing the case too much will cause false signals. Every Propointer I have used does the same thing and I accept that as a quirk of a tool that I use on a daily basis with great success.

The Propointer is a great tool but it is not a substitute for accurate pinpointing with the detector coil before you dig.
