Curbstrip Hunt. Another First!

On my way home from work today I finally stopped at a curbstrip I've been meaning to hunt for a while. It's right by the state Capitol building and on a very busy road. I'm sure the dirt there had some history to it. I was right! The traffic was heavy and I was on display for everyone creeping by, but I have gotten over the looks long ago. Haha. I dug my first V nickel!! Really fun to see that red colored beauty in the hole. I was sure it was a buffalo. I was pleasantly surprised. I also found this cool compact from 1928. It cleaned up pretty good with a little vinegar. I was able to find a picture of it online. There was still make-up inside it and even the mirror is intact. Thanks for looking.

Congrats on the V nickel! And the compact is in awesome shape! Really nice hunt, and good eye scoping out that curb strip. The pendant-looking thingy...is that a dog license or something? Any lettering you can make out? Looks like a good find, too

Its completely nondescript. I can't make out anything on it. It does have something very small stamped into it. I need to look at it closer after the soccer games!
 
You can detect some great places for clad anyhow if you don't mind high traffic.:yes:

Not deep at all. I thought it was a buffalo because it was such a reddish color. I'm definitely going back when I have more time. Listen for deeper signals. That compact was pretty deep though. I almost gave up on it. Was pretty sure it was trash when the signal was so big in the bottom of the hole. Glad I kept digging.
 
Good job on the rush hour like hunt!

Its not the high traffic areas that get me, but the greater odds that the one individual will complain to the authorities that "someone is tearing up the field!!!!" Yes, that happened to me. I try to stay as discreet as possible when hunting those areas.
 
Great finds!! I love the curbs!

Around here, though, they do come with some occasional confrontation...

I've had the police called on me three times, now, even though the strips are owned by the city. Just have to be nice, and go back again when there's no one around. ;)
