I have a few good hunts lined up in the 5 boroughs of NYC. Looking for a hunting buddy to start as early as this weekend.

Let me know if anyone is out there.

I'm in Northern NJ. Where (approx) do you have hunts lined up? Private property or do you need permits? I just had a baby so it will be tough to get out but would love to try and join you.

I usually hunt the parks here in the city, many of which are historic.

The NYC metal detecting permit is FREE and can be obtained here:

And yes, there are a few hunts on the horizon. One this Saturday involving Rockaway Beach. Look up Rockaway Beach NEWS on google, and you will see that a huge amount of erosion has caused the beach to be closedfor the majority of the beach season last year. This spring, they are planning on dredging up that sand and reopen the beach, but for now, there are about 10 blocks worth of very old sand to search through. You can get the gist of the story here:

Also, I plan on detecting POE PARK soon, which is the site where Edgar Allen Poes cottage (where he lived when his wife died) now lies. Last year I found a silver quarter metal detecting the back yard, and I know there is a lot more there.

I have done other hunts this year, like looking for an abandoned amusement park in Canarsie:

But I would highly recommend Merrill's video on that (he found a seated dime, and much more silver than I did at that location when we went out).

And the videos are called "Unearthing Golden City"

I am constantly hunting Orchard Beach in the Bronx and Coney Island as well, but I do have a full time job. The two days I have to detect are normally Friday or Saturday, and so I try to reserve one of those days every week to go out. Let me know if you are interested and you can join me!

I’m nowhere near you but I would think that there would be some neat old finds throughout that area.

Yeah, I find rings on the beaches, and silver in the parks sometimes. I found a bullet on Coney Island once, and a 40 yr Iron Workers Union Pin, which was interesting. One of my favorite finds was an old subway token, about the size of a dime, of the first variety every made.

If you can see this image here:

It was of the type on the left. I found it at Coney Island, and it took a lot of work to get the crud and grime off it.

I also found my first merc this year. I am working on cleaning it now too.

Wow, awesome. And thank you. I will certainly try and get out, if I can I'll reach out to you. Work has been busy and actually have to work next weekend. This Saturday I can't make it. Please let me know what you find!

@Fallguy
Yeah I am planning on being out there from 10 AM to catch low tide (at 11am). Should be interesting since the erosion left Rockaway so low. I hope to find something that can be directly tied to the amusement park that used to lie alone Beach 98th St and the Boardwalk called Playland. I am starting my hunt on Beach 98 just to give myself a head start.

I'm here in Fishkill New York working on Central Hudson property overhead power from North Carolina and I have my metal detectors with me looking for a group or guys to hunt with near me in Fishkill Newburgh Platz kill anywhere in that area if you have anybody in this area please hit me up
