First medal

While detecting a local high school I found a European-African—middle Eastern campaign medal from WW 2. By the looks of it, it has been there quite a while. Despite the fact that it was only a couple inches down.

Would really like to return it. Have checked on line for lost and founds but no luck. Anyone have any ideas of what else I can try.
