Let Me Axe You A Question

I love finding axe heads. I found this ugly misshapened hunk of iron today at a very old yard in Fernandina, Florida. If it didn't have a plughole for a handle to go in, I'd have tossed it into the recycle barrel.

Anybody have any idea of its use and approximate age? It's in the electrolysis tank, bubbling away.

They are cool to find. I've found two and a half this year...all were hand forged. Good luck trying to date one...maybe you'll find a maker's mark when done with the electrolysis. Nice find.
