I made this box for my 1st outing last month, knowing I would need something for the beach sand & not having anything available. I had the materials lying around in storage, some extra cabinet handles, chicken wire, wood and some nails. It has worked great for me since I go with my son. I dig with a large plastic scoop into it and he sifts. I am going to be getting/making something else that would be more practical for the days that he won't go and I'll be solo. The dimensions are 15 X10". I think that if I were making it again I would go a little smaller...maybe 13 x 9".

Jim - Good Idea! I'm sure that it's much lighter than my box! :!:

Those boxes work great. Was at a place were there was a lot of indian beads and was able to find several with a box just like that. The soil is sandy and easily passed through the screen.
