Well....I spent what....five hours? digging a rather massive hole at the old town dump. Hit water at about 4 feet so anything lower than that will have to wait for later in the summer when the swamp recedes. Started digging sideways..
Got a couple milk bottles (a nice little pint and a larger one which I broke the top off with my big shovel - but I think it will display fine once glued back together). A bit of this and that and my first actual wild-caught insulator (my others were unabashedly stolen...liberated....from my father's house).
And my ACL's! I do enjoy good vintage ACL soda bottles. And I found a few which are firsts for me. They seemed like the printing was pretty fragile (except the Upper 10) so I figured on letting 'em dry for a good long time before trying to delicately clean them. But why wait! The printing was baked on in the first place, I figured I'd just bake them right out of the ground and be good to go! Hmmmm….what temperature to use.....200 degrees sounds about right; not too terribly hot but hot enough!! Put 'em in the oven and went downstairs to clean my milks. Came up about 20 minutes later to check the progress and....Voila!! Destruction!!!! Even the Upper 10 was toasted...
Oh well...I've brutalized some metal detecting finds with different cleaners and concoctions and learned some things I shouldn't do....add baking the bottles to the list...….
