We've been hunting a bluff that overlooks Fort Dodge(1864-1888) where the soldiers apparently would shoot at marauding Indians sneaking up on the fort. So far what we're finding is either 45-70's or large cal musket balls. It has always been my thoughts that the 45-70's were used during the Indian wars in the late 1870's and early 1880's, and musket balls were more from an earlier period around the 1840's and 50's. What seems to be lacking is the miniballs like 3 ringers. We find many of these closer to the fort but not like you would expect on these bluffs. Ideas?

Here is an example from today's hunt.
