I was substitute-teaching a speech class at Parkland College the other morning (I'm retired from there).
I was videotaping speeches, and a kid was talking about running marathons. Suddenly he stopped talking, and he put his hand over his face. I thought he had lost his place and was trying to remember what to say next.
But then he dropped to the floor, unconscious.
I told one student to call 911, another to call school Security, and I sat with the kid until help arrived.
As far as I know, he's okay now. But it was a pretty frightening experience.
