I posted a picture on ID my finds and Cfmct-PI said this ring was platinum with gold (thanks). It is very tarnished and was wondering does platinum tarnish like this and what is the best way to clean it?
Thanks

Platinum is more durable than gold and will not turn that color. That looks like silver to me, use a little silver cream to clean it up. This is a quote from the link Rudy posted.

Because platinum is purer than gold, it doesn't fade or change color and it retains it retains a polish longer. Unquote.

That includes rings that have been in the ground a long time, like this one.

I believe the 950 is a silver designation. 950 means 95% silver. It is a common stamp used in silver jewelry.

The 18K designates gold, but perhaps a gold plating that has worn off due to the silver oxidizing.

Very nice find. Most nations use 925 (92.5% or "sterling") silver standard for jewelry. The 950 standard is required in France by law, so it could've been made in France or a French colony or any other nation importing into France.

Mexico also commonly uses 95% silver.
