Always wanted to find a badge of some kind. Recently I was hunting a curb strip in an old section of town. Found some wheats, memorials and crushed cans among the odds and ends.

Got a strong penny signal and about 5-6 inches down I felt what appeared to be another crushed can and I pulled it out.

WELLS FARGO badge.

Sadly I broke off an arm but could not find it.

Took it home and tried to research it and found LOTS of Well Fargo Pony Express badges for sale. Suspected these might all be fakes I showed it to a friend who is not only the cureator Of a museum but, to my surprise, collects badges.

Seems those on eBay are souvenir shop fakes. The key to knowing is they all say “AGENT”. But mine is authentic. It’s a Wells Fargo hatbadge circa 1950 and was worn by an armored car guard or a security guard.

Now I have to decide if I should clean it or not. Opinions?

What did the museum friend say about cleaning it?

I found one early this year in a corn field. On the back it says: Tales of Wells Fargo [emoji767]1958.

That is such a cool find! I was pretty happy when I dug a small, local Fire Dept badge this year.
If it cleans up good, give us an update photo.
Here's mine:
