Just saw on the news that a Union soldier was just awarded the Medal Of Honor for his bravery at Gettysburg. Lt. Alonso Cushing (not sure of spelling) was wounded twice and finally killed while manning a cannon at Gettysburg.

He was ineligible at the time because - at that time - it could not be awarded posthumously. Different now and a local Wisconson woman worked like 20 years to make this happen.

His battery is in the angle on cemetery ridge at Gettysburg. That's right where pickets charge was repulsed. Been there many times. He was shot twice & didn't leave the field. He got shot in his open mouth & was killed at the pinnacle of the attack.

Cushing's battery & the angle.
