A crotal bell, attached to harnesses and other tack on horses back in the day.
You know...jingle bells.
Also used to alert other horse drawn carts and carriages that another horse was approaching from up the road.
Some are inscribed with some fancy designs, there are numbers on the bottom of some that indicate size.
Finding a complete one is a great thing, many are found but they are smashed or broken.
Good save!

Me too. Have found a number of fragments and one whole bell, a large one, but the iron ball rusted onto the bell so doesn't move and ring.
A working crotal bell is a great find.
