The curator at the Maine museum in Augusta told me they are very rare. I have found a US buckle as well, but this one is my pride and joy.

Will post my favorite one from over the years. This little eagle militia plate was dug and finally confirmed by McDonald to be an 1830-1840's Officers Baby belt.

Very nice!!

HMN I knew you'd post yours eventually. I remembered you dug the sword belt plate, but I forgot about that sweet NYPD buckle. Thx for posting and congrats

Digger70pa, tell us about the top two?

I was at an old homesite and found one about 8" down. At 1st I thought it was an old jar lid.

It's in poor condition, but it's the only one I've ever found.

Default Very Nice

Those are awesome finds. They appear to date from the civil war era; I am a big War Between The States nut myself.

HH.

MOAR PLATES!!!

MoBob, post your box plate anyways!

Keex, where you at, I know you've got two to post now.

Since I dug another plate last month, I updated some of my relic displays. I thought you might like to see the plate displays here. Plus I wanted to bump this thread to see even more of yall's plates, haha.

L to R, Carbine Sling Buckle (Gaylord/Shepard stamped), Sabre belt plate from 1st Div US Cav camp, US belt plate, shoulder scale pan

Next picture is the VA buckle I'm sure you've seen before. Another relic hunter (Earl K) found the snap swivel and rivet from the sword belt rig in the same area, and gave them to me at DIV XX. The picture of the complete buckle identical to mine is from Confederate General William Mahone. And I finally was able to find a good picture of General Lee wearing his two piece buckle. He wore a VA buckle identical to mine, which is now in the museum of the Confederacy.
