Beastdigs & I got out for a little bit this afternoon. I dug a three piece New York staff officer's button that stayed together. I was really surprised all of the others I've dug have came apart. Any way thanks for looking. HH

We tracked down a NY camp and found a few of those buttons. One I found had the face fall off and to my surprise, the face was lined with paper on the inside. Never saw that before. Nice find and in my experience, they always lost more than one. So go find the other one.:p

We've found them at this camp before. Just not all in one piece.

The Minie balls with the "star" base are swaged bullets, probably produced at Watervliet arsenal. Not exactly rare, but hard to find.

The pressed & turned bullet are pretty common finds in the area we're hunting. We do find real star base bullets there on occasion & Williams cleaner type one. I've found six & five spoke variety's. Supposedly US base bullets have been found in the area. I've never found any of those yet. Here's a pic of a pressed & turned & a star base. Thanks for the reply. HH

There's also a small & large variety of star base bullets. I'd have to look through my stuff. I'll post a picture when I find some examples. HH

I like the New York button!

A bit perplexed, as it reminds me of a button I recovered in North Georgia. It was a domed general staff officers button but it had an iron back! Weird how different some of those buttons can be.

Take your button to the ID section and give a good pic of front and back and I think I can ID it for you.
