Pulled about 50 pieces out of a new Indian Wars camp. Perfect weather (60 degrees), great new spot. Here's the highlights:

This stuff was found very close together, not sure about the brass cone-shape item or if the other is some sort of toothpick. It is in good shape, the dry climate helps. It is some some sort of pick, looks dental. Martin primed .44 casing also visible.

4th Cavalry wasn't only folks thinking it was good camp site. Spanish Link and tinklers.

Any ideas? It is brass....

Broken picket pin ring and a wedge . I suppose it was used to knock cleats off of horseshoes. Stamped "US" on both sides.

Ammo...

How dry is West Texas? Look at those "C" buttons, gild remains. One of them even has some thread attached

What a great day!

I guess one mystery solved. The "wedge" is a cold cutting chisel designed to fit in the hardy hole of an anvil. Mine has the stem broken off and was probably discarded.

I gotta say, figuring these things out is as much fun as finding them.

Also cool- after electrolysis and cleaning- "US" stamped on both sides.
