MoBob and I got out for a short but hot hunt yesterday. Temp 93 and humidity about 90%, in a muddy cornfield. Really the first hot day we've had this summer, and a nice break from the constant rains. Finds were few but decent. Bob found a nice decorative rosette and I found my first shield nickel. We also both found a couple pieces of camp lead and misc stuff. Also pictured is a small lead piece that I think could be a field made nipple protector? Would like ya'lls expert opinions. It's the 2nd one I very found at this site and they are almost identical. Thanks for looking and HH

Awesome finds! I found 2 rosettes with similar design that are silver plated cast, and look a little larger but hard to tell not seeing yours, but the cast ones are a large rosette in comparison with others I have, the cast being harder than lead and the lead filled ones have a flat back with the loop attached within the lead fill not soldered on like the cast ones,It seems they kept up the design until when they stamped the face out of brass and then filled it with lead, could be military. Glad to see the design was used 1700s to the lead filled era. Awesome History! Nice hunt! Keep Digging! ....HH....401K . . . . http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=212432

Very nice. Here in eastern Va. I think we have had nearly two weeks of temps 95 plus and they are calling for two more days (tomorrow 100 plus) before we have highs below 90. Watch out for yourselves in that heat and make sure you carry some water.

Thanks It's been many years and a lot of miles so I'm not 100% sure but I think that I read that they also had a 2 part cast on these rosettes, casting a thick brass like face plate and then casting the fill in the 1700s. anyways HH 401K
