Found this about 10" down with my Vaquero. Thinking drive chain link of some kind.

It looks like the kind of chain that drove the flail on a manure spreader.

I'm interested in when they started using them because the park where it was found was a farm back at the early turn of the century (1900) .

OK. How far back would they have used something like this?

I don't know when they started but they're still being used.

Probably with the mechanizing of farm equipment which was very early 1900's. By about 1930 almost all farming used engine driven farm equipment.

An old abandoned farm site I detect has a harvester still sitting where the barn once was.
It has that type of chain to drive the various parts. From researching the history of this farm my guess is the harvester is from 1910-1930.
I have found a spark plug and coins from that period so finds and research match.
