Here is a biography of the artist.

Aristide De Ranieri

He executed many works in the style New art mainly in bronze, Babbitt, biscuit, terracotta and plaster.

Biography
Aristide of Ranieri comes from a dynasty of Tuscan marble carvers. His father, Angiolo of Ranieri from Querceta (1834-1911), sculptor trained in the workshops of Pietrasanta and Carrara and his brothers Ermemegildo (1862-1919) and Ferruccio (1867-1957), have adorned the main monuments of the cities and cemeteries of Viareggio and Pietrasanta at the end of the XIXe and at the beginning of the XXe century. His nephews Dino of Ranieri, son Ermenegildo, and Lelio of Ranieri (1890-1967), son of Ferruccio, continued the family tradition up to the middle of the XXe century. Even today, the Ranieri Arte Studio headed by Sirio of Ranieri, grandnephew of Aristide, and his son Dino, last descendant of the dynasty of Ranieri (sculptors), continues to train carvers in Pietrasanta.

Trained in the family workshop to Pietrasanta, it is sent to Paris by his father to open in 1893 a branch of the company Angiolo of Ranieri e figli at 10 of the Perceval Street in the 14e District.

Alongside his activities of representative in France of the family business, Aristide of Ranieri installs a sculpture and ceramics workshop where he creates his own works in the Art nouveau then up-and-coming style. Member of the Society of french artistsIt is regularly found in the Salons of Paris where he obtained the honours in 1899.

Quickly, before the success of his creations with Parisian fans and art dealers, the production of ceramics becomes the main activity of Aristide of Ranieri until the declaration of war in 1914.

Too old to be drafted, it continues but difficulties quickly to sell his creations with a population more concerned about necessities of daily life in time of war only by the desire to beautify their living environment. It must stop its production and to live, came to offer drawings to newspapers and magazines in Paris as patriotic The bayonet. Throughout this period, there is also his signature on of many cartoons broadcast in the form of postcards used as support of anti-German propaganda.

After the end of the conflict, Aristide of Ranieri tried to resume his activity as a sculptor and ceramist, but he finds pretty quickly that the Art Nouveau style that has made its reputation is completely out of fashion. More meeting the favor of an audience now more attracted to new artistic expressions more stripped, he makes the decision to close down his Studio. It began, like many sculptors of the time, a new career in academic statuary and intervenes mainly in State orders as ornementaliste memorials and commemorative books.

His last known work, a commemorative medallion of the crossing of the Atlantic by airmen Dieudonné Costes and Maurice Bellontedate of 1929.

We lose track of Aristide of Ranieri from that date. We don't know if he remained in France or if he retired with his family in his native Tuscany. The date and place of his death are unknown.
