Beautiful SoCal weather and amazing beaches, with a metal detector in hand is a great feeling :) Had a favorable tide and hit a new spot. Working toward the water and in the wet, I got a barely there signal and out came a yellow chain! Looked at the clasp and it says 24k! Things were looking up! Wasn't until back at the truck did I realize it was 24KGL "gold layered"

A minute later another a strong signal and out pops a small 10k white gold ring! Wow, 2 gold in one day!??? 15 minutes later working the dry sand and got a locked on signal. 9 inches down I pull out this extremely skinny 14k gold ring! It's marked 1938 and has some initials in it. It also has an interesting hallmark, anyone ever seen that before? Anyway, nice to get back on the gold. I was surprised at how good a signal I got for both of the gold rings, even the skinny one. My annual goal for gold and silver have been met, and I just hit the $100 clad mark. Here's to a great year!

Happy hunting!

:dingding: Great hunt! That's a difficult to top.

Nice job on the gold. Schweet! :) I spent a decent amount of time googling the right facing head and the W 3 marks but didn't come up with much. Some talk about a sideways W belonging to J.R. Wood and Sons Jewellers. Then some London marks for different years featuring different letters. As for the face I only found the attached, I keep looking at the Hippocrates and the faces near the bottom left but couldn't find any other links explaining his mark and the usage.

Appreciate you doing some research. My wife believes the ring may be from Mexico because the engraving shows a date of 27-11-38 rather than 11-27-38. First I had heard of that..... But if thats true maybe its a hallmark from Mexico. Just a guess. It was also found close to mexico.

Brits write the dates day month year as well. Would point more towards those London marks for the W.

Nice finds. Pretty much everywhere else in the world does dates like that. Day, month, year. America is one of very few that do month day year. Then again we are the only major country that doesn't use the metric system. As a person that is an engineer and sales for company in Europe both the dates and no metric system in the USA is a hassle for both me and the other countries. Msybe some year USA will finally get on the world date system and metric system.

Always love to see finds like that. Really great day for you. Congrats to you! [emoji106]
