At this angle the item top left looks like a scallop shell and to the right a cross, this is what makes me think it may be religious?

You can also see just how close the field is to the church where the item was found.

"Scallop shell:The sea shell, especially the scallop shell, is the symbol of Baptism, and is found frequently on Baptismal fonts.

The dish used by priests to pour water over the heads of catechumens in Baptism is often scallop-shaped.

The scallop, too, is a symbol for the Apostle James the Greater."

Thanks Doug! When does that church date from?

Thank you all for the views and kind remarks.

Ron:-

"The church is a building chiefly of the 11th-14th centuries.

It is renowned for the quality and extent of its early Norman features, and is one of the earliest surviving churches in Somerset.

Church is Grade 1 Listed Building."
