Two more trips to the beach, which is still producing some older coins -- silver dimes and quarters, buffalo nickels, and wheats. On the ridiculous side, I unearthed two replica Spanish colonial coins. The first one was momentarily a heart stopper, but the unlikelihood of finding a real colonial was soon confirmed by visible corrosion around the edge and then doubly confirmed when a second one appeared a few holes later. On the sublime side, I turned up a sterling child's ring, but even better, a 14k ring with a perfect 1/3 carat diamond -- one of my best rings to date.

If anyone is familiar with the B.-G. maker's mark on sterling, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks and happy hunting!
