It may be part of a Shaler three piece bullet... what does the cavity look like? Post a photo of the bottom and measure the diameter if you can.

I don't think it's a shaler bullet, and I doubt it has a cavity. I think it's just a modern handgun bullet, maybe .32 caliber.

If there's no cavity it can't be a Shaler... you're correct. IF it does have the correct cavity... then it is most likely one. The shape is not typical of a common shaler but there are quite a few variants that I've seen and dug.

Modern handgun bullet as posted above. Definately not a Shaler piece. Looks like a .38 or .40. Somewhere around there.
